The New Car

John and Rebecca are newlywed couple. John is a librarian and Rebecca is an Elementary School teacher. They have just moved to a new apartment at Sugarhill on Nostrand Avenue a week ago. They decided to rent this apartment because it is close to their workplace. It took almost all of their savings to afford this place, but they believed that it was worth it, because the distance is only about fifteen minutes by foot to their office.

One morning, John’s friend, Marty, called John and offered him to buy his car. It was a blue Mustang 1964 edition. John loved this car and he had been dreaming of it since he was in college. Marty asked for $5.000 in exchange for his car with one condition, that John would allow him to stay in his place for a while until he found his own place. The offer was just too good to be turned down for John, so he decided to tell his wife about it.

“Honey, what do you say if we buy a car?” asked John to Rebecca.

“No, it’s not the right time, John. We don’t have that kind of money right now” said Rebecca.

“But it is not a brand new car, Honey” said John.

“What do you mean that it is not a new car?” asked Rebecca.

“So, my friend, Marty, called me this morning and he offered us his car for $5.000 only” said John. “This is just too good to let go” he continued.

“Well, that’s true, but still, we have just spent so much for this place. It is not the right time for us to buy a car. Just be patient, Okay” said Rebecca try to calm her husband.

Knowing that his wife didn’t approve his idea, John tried to think of a way to trick his wife into buying the car. He decided to forge a fake lottery ticket and placed it into a cereal box and then sealed it. He wanted to make his wife to think as if as they have won a car from the cereal company.

Later in the night, John and Rebecca had just returned from work. They went to their bedroom get their clothes changed. Just before they wanted to go to bed, Rebecca decided to have some snack, so she went to the kitchen. She opened the cereal box and found the lottery. She started screaming happily.

“John, check this out! We won a car from the cereal!” said Rebecca happily.

“What? I don’t believe it” said John. “Let me see it” he said taking the lottery from Rebecca’s hand. “Oh my God, we won! We won a car!” he said.

“Yeay! I’m so happy for us Honey. Now, we are going to have a car” said Rebecca.

“Congratulation honey!” said John. “but, wait, look at this” he said pointing his finger into a sentence at the bottom of the lottery “it said that we have to pay for the Tax, and it is $5.000” he said.

“It is okay, Honey. We won’t get a chance like this twice in our life” said Rebecca.

“Alright then, let’s do this” said John.

John pretended to make a phone call to the designated number printed on the fake lottery. He then told his wife that they need to transfer the tax right away so that the prize can be processed. After they transferred the money, John said that the car will be at their apartment by tomorrow morning. Rebecca was so happy to hear that.

The next morning, Marty knocked on their apartment door. John welcomed him and Marty handed him the car’s key. John quickly walked back to his bedroom to wake Rebecca up and show her the new car.

“Honey, wake up. Look out of the window!” he said, “The car is here” he continued.

“Are you sure? Where is it” said Rebecca curiously.

“It is over there” said John pointing his finger at a blue Mustang down the road.

“Why doesn’t it look like a brand new car?” asked Rebecca.

“Well, I can explain” said John.

“No, no, no! Let’s go down there. I want to see it for myself” said Rebecca.

They were just about to walk out of the apartment when Rebecca saw Marty was sitting in their living room.

“Why is Marty here?” asked Rebecca.

“Let me explain, Honey” said John.

“Wait a minute, I think I get it” said Rebecca “That’s Marty’s car down there, isn’t it? And we don’t really win a lottery, aren’t we Hon?” she started to get angry.

“Well, let me explain” said John.

Mobil Baru

John dan Rebecca adalah pasangan yang baru menikah. John adalah seorang pustakawan dan Rebecca adalah seorang guru Sekolah Dasar. Mereka baru saja pindah ke sebuah apartemen baru di Sugarhill di jalan Nostrand seminggu yang lalu. Mereka memutuskan untuk menyewa apartemen ini karena lokasi nya dekat dengan tempat kerja mereka. Mereka menghabiskan hampir seluruh uang tabungan mereka untuk menyewa tempat ini, namun mereka percaya bahwa ini keputusan yang tepat, karena jarak nya hanya sekitar lima belas menit berjalan kaki ke kantor mereka.

Pada suatu pagi, teman John, Marty menelpon John dan menawarkannya untuk membeli mobilnya. Mobil yang ditawarkan itu adalah mobil Mustang edisi tahun 1964. John sangat menyukai mobil ini dan telah bermimpi memiliki nya sejak dia masih berada di perguruan tinggi. “Jadi begini, temanku, Marty, menelponku pagi ini dan dia menawarkan kita mobilnya dengan harga $5.000 saja” ujar John. “Ini sungguh terlalu baik untuk dilewatkan” tambahnya.

“Ya, itu benar, tapi tetap saja, kita baru saja menghabiskan uang begitu banyak untuk tempat ini. Ini bukan saat yang tepat bagi kita untuk membeli sebuah mobil. Bersabarlah, oke” ujar Rebecca mencoba menenangkan suaminya.

Mengetahui bahwa istrinya tidak menyetujui ide nya, John mencoba memikirkan cara untuk menipu istrinya agar ia membeli mobil itu. Dia memutuskan untuk memalsukan sebuah tiket undian palsu dan memasukkannya kedalam sebuah kotak sereal dan kemudian menutupnya. Dia ingin membuat istrinya berpikir seolah-olah mereka telah memenangkan sebuah mobil dari perusahaan sereal itu.

Pada malam harinya, John dan Rebecca baru saja kembali dari kantor. Mereka pergi menuju kamar mereka dan berganti pakaian. Tepat sebelum mereka akan tidur, Rebecca memutuskan untuk makan cemilan, dia pun pergi menuju dapur. Dia membuka kotak sereal itu dan menemukan undian itu. Dia pun langsung teriak kegirangan.

“John, lihat ini! Kita memenangkan sebuah mobil dari sereal ini!” ungkap Rebecca dengan gembira.

“Apa? Aku tak percaya itu” kata John. “Coba aku lihat” ujarnya sambil mengambil undian itu dari tangan Rebecca. “Ya tuhan, kita menang! Kita menang sebuah mobil!” ujarnya.

“Yeay! Aku sangat bahagia atas keberuntungan kita ini saying. Sekarang kita akan memiliki sebuah mobil” ujar Rebecca.

“Selamat sayangku!” kata John. “Tapi, tunggu, lihat ini” ujarnya sambil menunjukkan jarinya pada sebuah kalimat di bagian bawah undian itu “disini dinyatakan bahwa kita harus membayar pajaknya, dan jumlahnya $5.000” ungkapnya.

“Tidak apa-apa saying. Kita tidak akan mendapat kesempatan seperti ini dua kali dalam hidup kita” ujar Rebecca.

“Baiklah kalau begitu, ayo kita coba” kata John.

John berpura-pura melakukan panggilan telepon ke nomor tujuan yang tertera di undian palsu itu. Dia kemudian memberitahu istrinya bahwa mereka harus mengirim pajaknya segera agar hadiah mereka bisa dip roses. Setelah mereka mengirim uang itu, John mengatakan bahwa mobil itu akan ada di apartemen mereka besok pagi. Rebecca sangat senang mendengarnya.

Keesokan pagi nya, Marty mengetuk pintu apartemen mereka. John menyambutnya dan Marty pun memberikan kunci mobilnya. John segera kembali ke kamarnya untuk membangunkan Rebecca dan menunjukkan mobil baru itu.

“Sayang, bangunlah. Lihatlah keluar jendela!” ujarnya, “mobil nya sudah ada di sini” lanjutnya.

“Benarkah? Dimana?” tanya Rebecca penasaran.

“Itu di sebelah sana” kata John menunjukkan jarinya pada sebuah mobil Mustang berwarna biru di pinggir jalan.

“Kenapa itu tidak terlihat seperti mobil baru?” tanya Rebecca.

“Aku bisa jelaskan” kata John.

“Tidak, tidak, tidak! Ayo kita ke bawah. Aku ingin melihatnya langsung” ujar Rebecca.

Mereka baru saja akan keluar dari apartemen itu ketika Rebecca melihat Marty sedang duduk di ruang tamu mereka.

“Kenapa Marty ada di sini?” tanya Rebecca.

“Aku akan jelaskan, sayang” kata John.

“Tunggu sebentar, aku rasa aku mengerti” ujar Rebecca “Mobil yang di bawah itu mobilnya Marty kan? Dan kita tidak benar-benar menang undian kan?” dia mulai marah.

“Ijinkan aku jelaskan dulu” ujar John.

Contoh Narrative Text Legend

Contoh narrative text legend adalah jenis cerita yang berasal dari suatu kepercayaan dalam masyarakat. Dengan begini, kita bisa bilang bahwa sebuah cerita yang tergolong kedalam legenda masih memiliki hubungan dengan sejarah, misalnya saja seperti legenda Rawa Pening atau legenda Danau Toba yang merupakan sejarah terciptanya suatu tempat.

Pada kesempatan kali ini, saya akan menampilkan sebuah cerita yang berasal dari daerah Bengkulu, yaitu Legenda Ular Kepala Tujuh. Berbeda dengan contoh narrative text sebelumnya, cerita kali ini sudah tentu bukan hasil karangan saya, karena kisah ini merupakan cerita rakyat yang sudah ada sejak jaman dahulu. The Legend of Seven Headed Snake

Somewhere in Bengkulu, there was a Kingdom called Kutei Rukam which was led by a king with eight sons named Bikau Bermano.

One day, King Bikau Bermano held a wedding ceremony for his son, Gajah Meram. He wedded a princess of Suka Negeri Kingdom, named Princess Jinggai.

The wedding ceremony ran smoothly without any trouble up to the moment when Gajah Meram and his wife was in the process of joint bathing procession at the bathhouse near The Lake of Tes, the newlyweds suddenly disappeared. It happened so sudden; no one knew where and why the two of them disappeared.

Meanwhile at the same time, King Bikau Bermano and his Queen began to worry about their son and his new wife because they had not returned from the ceremony. Due to their great worries to their son and daughter in-law, the King ordered some of the palace guards to check on them at the bathhouse.

The palace guards arrived at the bathhouse but could not find Gajah Meram and his wife. They searched through every corner of the bathhouse, yet they found nothing. They could not even find a tiniest trace of the newlyweds.

After a quite long search, the palace guards returned to the palace to report to their king.

“My apologies, your majesty, I could not find Gajah Meram and Princess Jinggai at the bathhouse. They have disappeared, your majesty.” said the leader of the palace guard to the King.

“What did you just say? It’s impossible!” the King asked angrily.

“Forgive us Your Majesty, we have searched to every corner of the bathhouse and its surrounding, but we couldn’t find them anywhere.”

“Where are they? How could they disappear?” the King asked in panic.

“Please give us your mercy, Your Majesty! We really have no idea why and where they disappeared.” The palace guards responded accordingly.

The answers that he got could only make his worry for his son and daughter in-law got bigger. He was quite but could not stand still, thinking about what could possibly happen to them. He wandered around his chamber while caressing his white beard, thinking hard. He did it for quite some time until his queen calmed him down a little bit.

After giving some thought of the matter, he decided to call upon the palace guard.

“Gather every palace guards and all the royal families at once!” ordered the King.

“Right away, your majesty!” the palace guard answered respectfully.

It did not take too long time until every member of the royal families and the palace guards gathered around the palace’s assembly room.

“My people, I will ask straight to the point, and I hope you can give me the honest answer.” The king started talking.

“Is there anyone of you know or see my newlyweds son and his wife’s whereabouts?” he continued with hope in his face.

Sadly, there was no one answered the King’s full of concern-question. The assembly room became quiet for quite some time, until a “Tun Tuai (an old man)”, one of Princess Jinggai’s families gathered all his courage and raised his hand.

“Pardon the audacity of this old man, Your Majesty. But, I would like to say something in regards of this matter.”

“What is that, Tun Tuai? Do you have any idea the whereabouts of my son Gajah Meram and his wife, Princess Jinggai?” The King responded eagerly.

“Forgive me if the information that I’m about to give you is false. But, I am afraid that they might be taken by the King of Snake who rules under The Lake of Tes.” Tun Tuai answered respectfully.

“The great power of The Snake King is quite well-known around our land, but I am afraid that he is also a sly and ruthless King. Bothering the people who bathe in his Lake is his favorite, Your Majesty. There were some reports about that from the people around the lake.” He continued his explanation.

The King was startled that he heard about this matter only now. “Oh! Good Lord! Even if a tiny bit of this information is true, then my son and his wife are in danger. We must take action immediately.”

“I agree with that, Your Majesty, but how? . . .” said Tun Tuai.

Hearing the question made the King caught in silence again. He must think of a way to save his son.

As he was thinking about how to save Gajah Meram and his wife, his youngest son, Gajah Merik, came in front with all his gut and confidence.

“With all due respect, Your Majesty, My Father. Give me the honor to release my brother and his wife from the sly Snake King.” Gajah Merik declared his decision to help his brother.

King Bikau Bermano was taken aback by his youngest son decision. He could never imagine that a 13 year old boy would present himself to face an unknown enemy whose great power is well-known around the land.

“Gajah Merik, my son. Are you sure that you will be able to go against the Snake King?” The King asked, still in doubt.

“I am sure I can, Father.” Gajah Merik answered the question fearlessly.

“Do you know what kind of thing awaits there?! Even your older brother who is mature enough couldn’t take the Snake King down.” said the King, stating his doubt to his youngest son.

“once again, with all due respect, Father. I know that you think of me only as a little kid, the youngest son the one who should be protected. But, Your Majesty, Father, Mother and the People of Kutei Rukam who honored this Palace with their presence, I want to share a piece of something I’ve hidden for all these years.” He explained bravely in front everyone.

He continued while locking his eyes to the people around him. “Ever since I was ten years old, I’ve been dreaming that a divine old man came to me almost every night and taught me his power.”

Upon hearing the story, King Bikau Bermano smiled proudly. He had never thought that the day that his youngest son defending the Kingdom would come this fast. What made him prouder was that his son never bragged about his mighty power to others, not even to his own family.

“Is it true what you are saying, My Son?” asked the King

“Indeed, Father.” Gajah Merik answered confidently.

“Alright, tomorrow you shall go and find your brother and his wife, with one condition. You must meditate in Bandar Agung first to gain a divine weapon.”

“I’ll certainly do that, Your Majesty.” Gajah Merik answered.

Off Gajah Merik went to Bandar Agung on the next day. It was located between Merambung Village and Batu Kuning. Gajah Merik isolated himself and meditated for seven days straight, without consuming any food or drink. After finishing his meditation, Gajah Merik got himself a divine weapon, a keris and a scarf. The divine Keris could create an underwater pathway so it can be crossed without diving and the scraf could turn itself to a sword.

After finishing his father’s duty to meditate, he went back to the palace with those two divine weapons. But then, upon arriving to Telang Macang Village he saw some palace guards guarding the borderline of Kutei Rukam Kingdom and Suka Negeri. Avoiding himself being seen by the guards, Gajah Merik just dived into Air Ketahun River towards Tes Lake while holding his divine keris. The keris showed his power, leaving Gajah Merik astonished. He could walk underwater as if he was walking on the ground.

Initially, Gajah Merik intended to return to the palace, yet upon arriving at The Tes Lake, he changed his mind and decided to face the the Snake King right away. Gajah Merik dived deeper into the bottom of the lake. Not long after, he could see the Snake King hideout. There was a gate in front of a cave with the biggest entrance. He went there without much thought. When he was about to enter the cave, two enormous snakes blocked his way.

One of the huge snake threatened Gajah Merik, “O human! Who are you? How dare you let yourself come in here! ”

The threat was not effective to fear Gajah Merik, He challenged back fearlessly. “I am Gajah Merik, I’ve come to save my brother and his wife.”

“There’s no way you could enter this place.” The other snake added.

Being a willful person he was, a fierce argument happened inevitably, led to a fight with the snakes. At first, the snakes could give a good fight against Gajah Merik, but soon after Gajah Merik beat them down mercilessly.

Successfully took down the two enormous snakes, he continued his journey to explore the cave. Upon finding new doors along the way, his way was always blocked by two enormous snakes. Luckily, he always won in each fight against the snakes.

Upon facing the seventh door, he heard a big laugh coming out of nowhere surrounding the cave.

“Ha… Ha… ha…, O human, a son of a human!” he heard the sound talking.

Gajah Merik realized that it might be the sound of the Snake King. He took a view steps back and said, “Hey, Snake King! Show yourself to me if your gut is as big as your infamous name!” challenged Gajah Merik.

Feeling himself being challenged, the Snake King hissed and a very thick smoke came out from the hiss. It soon turned into a enormous giant snake.

“I must say that I admire your courage and skill young man. There was no human could paved their way to my palace but you. Who are you and tell me your intention.” The Snake King asked.

“I am Gajah Merik, the son of King Bikau Bermano of Ketei Rukam Kingdom.” answered Gajah Merik fearlessly. “Release my brother and his wife or else I’ll destroy this place.”

“Ha… Ha… ha…, what a brave and fearless little boy you are. Should I release your brother and his beautiful wife, you must fulfill a condition I give you.”

“What is the condition?” Gajah Merik asked suspiciously.

“First, you must revive my guards who got killed by you previously. Second, you must beat me.” The Snake King challenged with a very big yet annoying laugh.

“Oooh, that was what I was looking for from the beginning, you evil being!” Gajah Merik challenged back.

With the power he got from the old man who had been coming on his dream, Gajah Merik rubbed down the snakes that he killed previously while reading out a spell. Those snakes came back to life in no time. The Snake King was quite taken aback by Gajah Merik’s power.

“You are not just all talk young man, I admire you. You’ve completed the first condition.” said the Snake King. “But I’m sure you won’t be able to complete the second one. To beat me! Ha… ha… ha… !!!” The Snake King added arrogantly.

“Prove it, if only you have the guts.” Gajah Merik replied, challenging the Snake King, once again.

The Snake King attacked by wagging his tail towards Gajah Merik. Being agile himself, Gajah Merik could easily dodge the attack. A fierce fight between the two finally happened. They attacked each other with their own distinctive moves. As the fight went on till five days straight, it could be seen that the fierce fight between the human and the huge animal was considered equal. None of them seemed weaker than the other. Till it came the sixth day, being the strong and healthy young man himself, Gajah Merik was still powerful; it could be seen from his agile moves. Quite the opposite, the Snake King began to look quite exhausted and almost ran out of his power. His moves weakened, and Gajah Merik could see it clearly. He kept on pressuring the King with powerful attacks until the King was cornered. On the right timing, Gajah Merik quickly stabbed his scarf –which has turned into a sword- towards the Snake King’s stomach.

“Arrgghh!!! It hurts.” The Snake King screamed, holding in his pain.

Seeing the helpless Snake King, Gajah Merik took several steps down, just in case the king would just re-attack him.

“You were good, young man. I acknowledge your power. I retreat, I shall declare my defeat.” Said the Snake King, ran out of his breath and power.

Hearing the acknowledgement, Gajah Merik went straight to his brother and his sister in-law, Princess Jinggai, and released them. They were locked in a dungeon where it was dark and damp.

King Bikau Bermano and the whole royal family could not help but being paranoid. It was extremely worrisome that Gajah Merik had not been returning for two weeks. Remembering how young his youngest son was, he was drawn in regrets agreeing his son’s request to go save Gajah Meram all by himself.

Thus, the King ordered some king’s guards to go after Gajah Merik. Suddenly, just right when the king’s guards were about to march, one of the palace guards who had been sent to watch over the bathhouse near the Tes Lake, ran towards the King hurriedly.

“Your majesty!, Gajah Merik has returned! Along with Gajah Meram and Princess Jinggai”

The palace guard reported.

The King was curious and excited and the same time, “It can’t be possible. Wasn’t he still meditating in Bandar Agung?”

“With all due respect your majesty, we were also surprised the prince and princess just appeared from inside the lake so suddenly like that. As a matter of fact, Gajah Merik had finished his seven days meditation and went straight to the Snake King’s place. Not only that he had been there, but he also managed to defeat the Snake King and saved Gajah Meram and Princess Jinggai.” explained the palace guard excitedly.

Being a King, King Bermano was relieved hearing the news. But as a father, his face could not hide his great anxiety. Not until he could see his sons’ faces directly.

It was not that long that Gajah Merik, Gajah Meram and Princess Jinggai finally arrived at the palace. They were escorted by the Palace Guards. King Bermano and the other royal family members could finally smiled and released a very relieving sight one could ever see. They were overjoyed that Gajah Merik, Gajah Meram and Princess Jinggai finally returned to their embrace.

The news of Gajah Meram’s return and Gajah Merik’s greatness spread throughout the Kingdom like a wildfire. To commemorate the blissful occasion, King Bermano threw a party for seven days straight non-stop.

After the party, King Bermano was ready to hand over his throne to Gajah Meram.

Hearing his father’s intention, Gajah Meram refused the throne and gently said to his father, “With all due respect your majesty, My father, I don’t think that I was the right person to accept the throne. I assure you father that each and every one in this kingdom would nod their heads and agree with me that Gajah Merik is the rightful successor to the throne. His service for the kingdom is not questionable; he could defeat the powerful Snake King and saved me and my wife.”

Thinking hard, the King was honestly quite agreed with his son’s argument. “Alright, if you say so, My son, it means that you don’t mind giving the throne to your brother.” said the King to Gajah Meram.

“Not at all, Father.” Gajah Meram answered gracefully.

“Then, if you don’t mind my son, Gajah Merik, would you give me the honor to give the throne to you and become a King that could lead this Kingdom wisely?” King Bermano asked Gajah Merik.

“With all due respect, your majesty, my father, the honor would be mine. But, I have only one request, your majesty.” answered Gajah Merik, trying to compromise with his father.

“Sure, what is it, my son?”

“If I were to become a king, may I appoint the Snake King and his henchmen to be one of the King’s Guards?” asked Gajah Merit.

“That was a strange request, but I believe you my son. Alright I’ll guarantee your wish.” The King responded.

Finally, the defeated Snake King of Lake Tes and his henchmen were appointed to become the members of King’s Guard in Kutei Rukam Kingdom.

Gajah Merik’s adventure of defeating the Snake King became folklore for the people of Lebong as the legend of seven headed snake. The snake is believed by the people of Lebong as the guardian of Tes Lake. Its nest is placed throughout Lem bay until Pondok Lacuk. Thus, when the people travel around the lake by boat, the people of Lebong would not dare to say things carelessly.

Long-long time ago, when most people still live in a mountain, there was a ninja school in Shirakawa village. The master of this school was Sensei Hiroshi. He was a skillful ninja and a fierce warrior when it comes to the battlefield. But he is a very kind and tender person when it comes to taking care of his disciple. That is why all of his students love him so much.

One day, one of his students came to see him in his chamber. His name was Daisuke. Hiroshi welcomed him and asked him to sit on the tatami.

“How was your day, Daisuke?” asked Hiroshi nicely.

“It was fine, Sensei” said Daisuke.

“You don’t sound really excited, why? What happened?” asked Hiroshi.

“I don’t think I can stay in this school anymore, Sensei. I think it is time for me to go home to my village” said Daisuke.

“I see. If that is what you want, I think it is a good thing” said Hiroshi.

“Yes, Sensei” said Daisuke

“So, what do you have in mind when you get back to your village?” asked Hiroshi

“I am going to be a farmer and help my parents, Sensei” said Daisuke

“Well, that’s great, Daisuke! I’m proud of you” said Hiroshi “but, if you don’t mind me asking, what about your dream of becoming a ninja? Are you going to come back to this school one day?” asked Hiroshi.

“I’m not sure, Sensei. After all this time, I don’t think that I have made significant progress with my training as a ninja. All my friends who started the training with me are all in advanced class right now, but I still have to learn the basic” said Daisuke trying to explain to his teacher.

“Ha..ha..ha.. I see, so that is the reason why you want to go back to your village” said Hiroshi excitedly

“Why are you happy with my story, Sensei?” asked Daisuke with agitated sound.

“No, you get it wrong, Daisuke” said Hiroshi with big smile on his face “I have a story, would you like to hear that?” asked Hiroshi

“Sure, I mean, why not” said Daisuke.

“I used to know a little boy who wanted to be a ninja. He wanted to be a ninja after he lost his entire family during the Great War. He wanted to be a ninja so that he can protect the people he cares about and so no one has to feel what he felt. At the moment, ninja training was very heavy those only adults are allowed to join the training. So, as you can predicted, the little boy is rejected by the training camp” said Hiroshi

“Then, what happened?” asked Daisuke when he realize that Hiroshi had made a very long pause to the story.

“The boy refused to give up. The little boy sneaked in into the camp and hide in the warehouse. Day by day, the little boy watched the grownups practicing their skill on the field through a small hole on the wooden wall of the warehouse and he tried to practice by himself. In order to stay alive, the boy would steal some food and water from the storage in the warehouse until one day, someone caught him. People in the camp were angry at him at first; they questioned him about his reason being in that warehouse and this little boy explained it without a doubt. Knowing that they boy had been practicing by himself this whole time, all people were curious about his capability, and that was the moment when this little boy surprised them all by his ability to throw a shuriken straight to the center of the practice board” said Hiroshi

“Wow, that’s an amazing story, Sensei” said Daisuke

“Yap, it is. Do you know what happened to the little boy right now?” asked Hiroshi

“He became a great ninja?” said Daisuke trying to make a guess

“The little boy is talking to you right now” said Hiroshi with a smile on his face

“Oh my God, it’s you” said Daisuke showing his surprise

“See, Daisuke, being a ninja isn’t about being extremely skillful on the battlefield. Being a ninja is more about having the spirit of a warrior. It is about never giving up on your dream. It is about the inner intention to protect others” said Hiroshi.

“I get it now, Sensei, thank you so much for this talk” said Daisuke

“So, do you still want to go back to your village?” asked Hiroshi with a smirk on his face

“No, Sensei, I think I want to keep trying to achieve my dream to be a ninja” said Daisuke

“Great! I know It” said Hiroshi “one more thing, do you know the meaning of your name?” asked Hiroshi

“I’m not sure, Sensei” said Daisuke

“Daisuke means “a great helper”, I believe that you are going to be a great help for a lot of people one day. So, don’t give up!” said Hiroshi

“Thank you, Sensei” said Daisuke

After that, Daisuke went back to continue his training with his friends.

Pada jaman dahulu kala, saat sebagian besar orang masih tinggal di gunung, ada sebuah sekolah ninja di desa Shirakawa. Guru di sekolah ini adalah Sensei Hiroshi. Dia adalah seorang ninja yang sangat terampil dan seorang prajurit yang ganas saat berhubungan dengan medan perang. Namun dia adalah seorang yang sangat baik dan lembut saat itu menyangkut cara dia memperlakukan murid-muridnya. Inilah sebabnya mengapa semua muridnya sangat menyayanginya.

Suatu hari, salah seorang muridnya datang menemuinya di ruangannya. Nama murid itu adalah Daisuke. Hiroshi menyambutnya dan mempersilahkan dia untuk duduk di atas tatami.

“Bagaimana hari mu, Daisuke?” tanya Hiroshi dengan ramah

“Cukup menyenangkan, Sensei” ujar Daisuke

“Kau tidak terdengar bersemangat, mengapa? Apa yang terjadi?” tanya Hiroshi

“Saya rasa saya tidak bisa tinggal di sekolah ini lagi, Sensei. Saya pikir ini saatnya bagi saya untuk pulang ke desa saya” ujar Daisuke

“Owh begitu. Jika itu yang kau inginkan, kurasa itu akan jadi hal yang bagus” ujar Hiroshi

“Ya, Sensei” ujar Daisuke

“Lalu apa yang kira-kira akan kamu lakukan ketika kamu sudah kembali ke desamu?” tanya Hiroshi

“Saya akan jadi seorang petani dan membantu kedua orang tua saya” uar Daisuke

“Wah, itu bagus sekali, Daisuke! Saya bangga padamu” ujar Hiroshi “tapi jika kau tidak keberatan, bagaimana dengan impianmu untuk menjadi seorang ninja? Apakah kau akan kembali ke sekolah ini suatu hari nanti?” tanya Hiroshi

“Saya tidak tau, Sensei. Setelah sekian lama, saya rasa saya belum juga membuat kemajuan yang baik dengan pelatihan saya sebagai seorang ninja. Semua teman saya yang memulai pelatihan ini bersama saya kini sudah berada di kelas lanjutan, tapi saya masih saja harus berlatih dasarnya” ujar Daisuke mencoba menjelaskan pada guru nya

“Ha..ha..ha.. aku mengerti, jadi itulah alasan mengapa kau ingin kembali ke desamu” ujar Hiroshi dengan penuh semangat

“Mengapa anda terlihat bahagia dengan cerita saya, Sensei?” tanya Daisuke dengan suara kesal

“Bukan, kau salah memahaminya, Daisuke” ujar Hiroshi dengan senyum lebar di wajahnya “aku punya sebuah cerita, apa kau mau mendengarnya?” tanya Hiroshi

“Tentu saja, maksud saya, mengapa tidak” ujar Daisuke

“Aku pernah kenal seorang anak kecil yang ingin menjadi ninja. Dia ingin menjadi ninja setelah dia kehilangan seluruh anggota keluarganya pada perang besar. Dia ingin menjadi ninja agar dia bisa melindungi orang-orang yang dia sayangi dan juga agar tidak ada yang perlu merasakan apa yang dia rasakan. Pada saat itu, pelatihan ninja sangatlah berat hingga hanya orang dewasa saja yang diijinkan untuk mengikuti pelatihan itu. Jadi, seperti yang bisa kamu duga, anak kecil itu ditolak oleh tempat pelatihan” ujar Hiroshi

“lalu, apa yang terjadi?” tanya Daisuke saat dia menyadari bahwa Hiroshi telah memberi jeda terlalu lama pada cerita itu

“Anak kecil itu tidak mau menyerah. Anak kecil itu menyelinap masuk kedalam kamp itu dan bersembunyi di gudang. Hari demi hari, anak kecil itu melihat para orang dewasa berlatih keterampilan mereka di lapangan melalui lubang kecil di dinding kayu gudang itu dan dia mencoba berlatih sendiri. Untuk bertahan hidup, anak itu mencuri makanan dan minuman dari tempat penyimpanan di dalam gudang itu hingga suatu hari seseorang menangkapnya. Orang-orang di kamp itu pada awalnya marah pada anak itu, mereka menanyai nya tentang alasannya berada di dalam gudang itu dan anak kecil itu menjelaskan tanparagu. Saat mereka tau bahwa anak itu telah berlatih sendiri selama ini, semua orang merasa penasaran dengan kemampuannya, dan itu merupakan momen dimana anak kecil ini mengejutkan mereka semua dengan kemampuannya melempar sebuah shuriken tepat ke tengah papan sasaran” ujar Hiroshi

“Wow, cerita yang sangat luar biasa, Sensei” ujar Daisuke

“Ya, tentu saja. Taukah kamu apa yang terjadi dengan anak kecil itu saat ini?” tanya Hiroshi

“Dia menjadi seorang ninja yang hebat?” ujar Daisuke mencoba menebak

“Anak kecil itu sedang ngobrol denganmu saat ini” ujar Hiroshi dengan senyuman di wajahnya

“Ya Tuhan, anak itu adalah anda” ujar Daisuke menunjukkan keterkejutannya

“Kau lihat, Daisuke, menjadi ninja bukanlah tentang menjadi sangat terampil di medan perang. Menjadi ninja adalah lebih tentang memiliki jiwa pejuang. Itu tentang tidak pernah menyerah akan mimpimu. Itu tentang niatan dalam hati untuk melindungi orang lain” ujar Hiroshi

“Saya mengerti sekarang, Sensei, terimakasih banyak atas pembicaraan ini” ujar Daisuke

“Jadi, apa kau masih ingin kembali ke desamu?” tanya Hiroshi dengan senyum menyeringai di wajahnya

“Tidak, Sensei, saya pikir saja ingin tetap mencoba untuk menggapai mimpi saya untuk menjadi seorang ninja” ujar Daisuke

“Bagus! Saya tau kau akan mengatakannya” ujar Hiroshi “satu hal lagi, apa kau tau arti namamu?” tanya Hiroshi

“Saya rasa tidak, Sensei” ujar Daisuke

“Daisuke itu artinya “seorang penolong yang hebat”, aku percaya kau akan jadi bantuan yang luar biasa bagi banyak orang suatu hari nanti. Jadi, jangan menyerah!” ujar Hiroshi

“Terimakasih, Sensei” ujar Daisuke

Setelah itu, Daisuke kembali untuk melanjutkan latihannya bersama teman-teman nya.

Laimingas Duona (The Happy Bread)

Once upon a time, there lived a boy named Audros Vejas with his father in a small village in Lithuania. His mother has passed away seven years ago when the dry season struck their land. Audros and his father had been struggling to live day by day ever since. They worked as farmers and they planted wheat around their house. Their village was a savanna and very few people lived in the area which made everyone knew each other so closely.

Living as a farmer was not easy at that time, especially during winter when everything was frozen. The villagers, including Audros and his father could only rely on their wheat stock during this season. Things got even worse when winter storm happened and they couldn’t came out of their house to collect fire wood so they had to burn some of their wheat stock just to keep the heat flowing in the house.

One day in a cold winter night, Audros’ father came home with a large wound on his leg. He got injured when he was collecting fire wood. Audros came right away to help him and laid him on a rug in the living room.

“Get me some water to clean my wound, my boy” said Audros father

“Oke, Papa” said Audros

He went to the kitchen and got a large bowl from the shelf. After that he filled the bowl with fresh water. He then soaked a clean towel into it and brought the bowl to the living room.

“I’ve got the water, Papa” said Audros

“Come! Get closer!” said his father waving his hand to Audros

Audros sat next to his father and started cleaning the wound. After that, he applied some dried herbs to the wound and wrapped his father’s leg with some clean clothes. When they have taken care of the wound, they sat next to each other in the living room and put on a thick blanket around them to stay warm.

Minute after minute and the weather slowly got colder and it made the temperature inside the house went lower. The thick blanket started to feel less warm by the minute passed by. Realizing that they couldn’t rely on it anymore, they decided to start a fire in their fireplace. The problem was they didn’t have enough fire wood. They were forced to burn some of their wheat stock that night and there goes some of their food supply.

The next morning they woke up next to the fireplace. Audros walked toward the window and opened the curtain. He looked outside the house, everything was covered in snow. The wind was still blowing harshly and it didn’t seem like it was going to change anytime soon. He closed the curtain back and went to check the condition of his father.

The wound on his father’s leg was getting better. The dried herbs that he applied on the wound seemed to be working. Audros took a clean towel and started cleaning the wound one more time. After that, he helped his father to get up. Once he had done it, his father started to walk on his own.

“Yap, it feels a lot better now” said Audros father

“Yeah, I can see it” said Audros with smile on his face, “so, do you want oatmeal for breakfast?” he continued

“Nah” said Audros father shaking his head “Let me cook something for you” he said

“Are you sure” asked Audros “okey, then” he said

Audros father slowly walking to the kitchen. He opened the kitchen cabinet and found some of their wheat stock, some ginger, brown sugar and salt and a jar of coffee. There wasn’t much to choose from, but Audros father was a resourceful man. With the available ingredient, he decided to try to make bread.

First, he ground the wheat and turned it into wheat flour. Then, he sifted the wheat flour by using a sieve until he got enough smooth flour for the bread. After that, he peeled some ginger and grated it by using a metal grater until he had enough ginger powder. When all ingredients for the bread were ready, he prepared a large bowl and poured the wheat flour into it. He added ginger powder and two tablespoon of coffe into the bowl. After that, he also added five tablespoon of sugar and one teaspoon of salt into the mixture, and last, he added four glass of water into the bowl and started to mix the entire ingredient together until he got perfect dough for his bread.

When the dough was ready, he sliced it into some small pieces. He then shaped each piece into a bun and left it for several minutes until each of it grew bigger. When the buns were ready, Audros father bake it in an old oven. After that, Audros and his father waited for about twenty minutes until the bread is done.

When the bread is done, Audros father turned off the stove and took the tray out of the oven. The smell of fresh bread spread around the room instantly, making both Audros and his father hungry. They picked the bread one by one from the tray and placed it in a large jar. They left two pieces on the tray for them to try.

“Owh, It smells so nice Papa” said Audros

“I am surprised my self, son” said Audros father

“Here, let me try it” said Audros taking one bread of the tray. “Hmm, this is really nice, Papa” said Audros excitedly

“Are you sure?” asked his father curiously “Give me that” said his father pointing at the last bun on the tray “Oh my God! This is really good” said his father

The taste of the bread was really delicious. It gave them joy just to smell the aroma of the bread, and the taste made them even happier. Not only joyful experience that they got from the bread, but also this warm effect of ginger powder and coffe that Audros father put in it which allow them to fight the cold weather at that moment. The bread simply helped them to be more comfortable with the temperature in their house.

Knowing that the bread could help them to fight the cold weather, Audros and his father decided to share it to their neighbor. Audros put some of the bread in a paper bag and went out to distribute the bread. Everytime Audros handed over the bread to one of his neighbor; he would wait for their comment about it. It turned out that his entire neighbor had the same reaction toward the bread, the same feeling that Audros and his father felt the moment they tried the bread for the first time. Unexpectedly, some of his neighbor donated some of their food stock to Audros in exchange for the bread. As the result, Audros went back home with even more food than what he brought when he left the house to distribute his father’s bread. Audros father was very happy to see this. He was very grateful that they have enough food stock to survive until the winter is over. With this memorable experience, they decided to name the bread “Laimingas Duona” or as we called it in English “The Happy Bread”.

The Little Rabbit

Once upon a time, in a tiny hut under a willow tree, there lived a cute baby rabbit and his mother. The little rabbit loves pickles so much. He has pickles for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“Pickles, Pickles, Pickles! I love pickles” said the little rabbit.

Every time the little rabbit wants to have a meal with his mother, his mother would always ask him to wash his hand first.

One day, the little rabbit went home after spending his time all day long exploring rabbit burrows around his hut. He was so hungry. He went into the kitchen, looking for his mother, but she was not around.

“Mama, Mama, where are you?” said the little rabbit, but no one answered.

He decided to open the kitchen cabinet where his mother usually keeps the pickles. He found a large jar full of delicious pickles. He then picked the jar and placed it on the dining table. He opened the jar and picked some pickles out of it. He gobbled the pickles right away as he was very hungry and he forgot to wash his hand before.

The little rabbit went to his bed after his little tummy was full of pickles. He was about to fall asleep when his little tummy started to rumble. He cried out loud calling for his mother.

“Mama, Mama, where are you?” said the little rabbit in pain.

“I am here my dear” said his mother coming to the room. “What happened to you?” she continued.

“I am not feeling well, Mama” said the little rabbit. “I think my stomach is upset” he said.

“Did you wash your hand before you had your lunch?” asked his mother.

“No, I didn’t, Mama. I forgot to do so” said the little rabbit.

“Well, that is why your stomach gets upset now.” said his mother.

“I am sorry, Mama” said the little rabbit.

“It’s alright. Let me go to the kitchen and make herbal drinks for your stomach” said his mother.

His mother went to the kitchen and came back with a cup of herbal drinks in her hand.

“Here, take this and you will get better in no time” said his mother.

The little rabbit drank the herbal drinks and lay down on his bed. After waiting for a couple of minutes, the herbal drinks started to work and the little rabbit started feeling better. He thanked his mother for the remedy and promised that he will always wash his hand before he had his meal.

Si Kelinci Kecil

Pada suatu masa, di sebuah pondok kecil di bawah pohon dedalu, hiduplah seekor bayi kelinci yang imut bersama ibu nya. Kelinci kecil ini sangat suka acar. Dia makan acar setiap sarapan, makan siang dan makan malam.

“Acar, Acar, Acar! Aku suka Acar” kata si kelinci kecil.

Setiap kali si kelinci kecil akan makan bersama ibu nya, ibu nya selalu memintanya untuk mencuci tangannya terlebih dahulu.

Suatu hari, si kelinci kecil pulang ke rumah setelah bermain seharian menelusuri liang-liang kelinci di sekitar pondoknya. Dia sangat lapar. Dia pergi ke dapur, mencari ibunya, namun ibunya tidak ada.

“Mama, Mama, dimana kau berada?” ujar si kelinci kecil, namun tidak ada yang menjawab.

Dia memutuskan untuk membuka lemari dapur dimana ibunya biasa menyimpan acar. Dia menemukan sebotol besar acar yang lezat. Dia pun kemudian mengambil botol itu dan meletakkannya di atas meja makan. Dia buka botol itu dan mengambil beberapa acar dari dalamnya. Dia langsung melahap acar-acar itu karena dia begitu lapar dan dia lupa untuk mencuci tangannya terlebih dahulu.

Si kelinci kecil masuk ke kamarnya setelah perut kecilnya penuh terisi acar. Dia baru saja akan tertidur ketika perut kecilnya mulai bergemuruh. Dia menangis dengan kencang memanggil ibu nya.

“Mama, Mama, dimana kau berada?” ujar si kelinci kecil dalam kesakitan.

“Aku di sini anakku” kata ibunya sambil masuk ke kamar itu. “Apa yang terjadi denganmu?” lanjutnya.

“Saya merasa tidak enak badan, Mama” ujar si kelinci kecil. “Sepertinya aku sakit perut” katanya.

“Apa kau mencuci tanganmu tadi sebelum makan siang?” tanya ibunya.

“Tidak, Mama. Saya lupa cuci tangan tadi” ujar kelinci kecil.

“Nah, itulah penyebab kamu sakit perut sekarang.” Ujar ibunya.

“Maafkan aku, Mama” kata kelinci kecil.

“Tidak apa-apa. Aku akan ke dapur sekarang dan membuatkan jamu untuk perutmu” ujar ibu nya.

Ibunya pergi ke dapur dan kembali dengan segelas jamu di tangannya.

“Ini, minumlah dan kau akan merasa baikan dalam sekejap” ujar ibu nya.

Si kelinci kecil meminum jamu itu dan berbaring di tempat tidurnya. Setelah menunggu beberapa menit, jamu itu mulai bekerja dan si kelinci kecil mulai merasa baikan. Dia berterimakasih pada ibunya untuk obat itu dan berjanji bahwa dia akan selalu mencuci tangan sebelum dia makan.

The Story of Ande Ande Lumut

Once upon a time, somewhere in East Java, there lived a very handsome prince named Panji Asmarabangun. He was very smart and powerful that he always wins at war. He was also very kind and generous to his people that everyone in his kingdom adores him so much. His life was almost perfect because it seemed that he had everything. There was just one thing missing from his life and it was life partner.

Girls from all over the place have tried to get to his heart but none of them seemed to get his attention. The reason behind this was because Prince Panji Asmarabangun didn’t want a girl to love him for he was a prince but he wanted a girl to love him for who he is as a person and as a normal human being. Knowing what his heart really wanted, Prince Panji Asmarabangun decided to leave the palace for a while and live as an ordinary people far away from the palace.

He found a place to stay in Dadapan village. He lived with and old widow known as Mbok Rondo and pretended to be her son. Mbok Rondo was a very nice lady and she acted as if as Prince Panji Asmarabangun was truly her son. She then gave him a new name, Ande Ande Lumut. Ever since that day, the two of them live together as a family.

With the money that he brought from the palace, Prince Panji Asmarabangun built a very nice house for Mbok Rondo near Bengawan Solo River. The news of Mbok Rondo having a very rich son spread so quickly until it reached a village across the river where an evil lady named Nyai Intan lived with her daughters: Kleting Abang, Kleting Ijo, Kleting Biru and Kleting Kuning.

The story of a rich young man living across the river has tempted Nyai Intan to make a move. She told all of her daughters, except Kleting Kuning, to get ready to meet their future husband in Dadapan village. Kleting Kuning was the one left out because she was actually a foster child in the family.

After preparing themselves, Nyai Intan and her daughters went straight to Dadapan village. When they arrived at the bank of Bengawan Solo River, they didn’t see any boat around. They didn’t know what to do as none of them were able to swim. Suddenly, they heard a voice from a shrub in a distance.

“I can help if you want to go to the other side of this river” said the mysterious voice

“Who is there? Show yourself!” said Nyai Intan

A gigantic river crab came out of the shrub and introduced itself as YuYu Kangkang (yuyu is the Javanese word for river crab).

“Oh mighty Yuyu Kangkang, would you help us and take us to the other side of this river?” said Nyai Intan trying to persuade the giant crab

“Oh.. I would. I will gladly help you if all of you are willing to kiss me” said YuYu Kangkang

“What? Kiss you? In your dream!” said Kleting Abang furiously

“Ssst.. watch your mouth Kleting Abang” said Nyai Intan

“but he smells so bad, Mom” said Kleting Abang

“Oke, if you don’t want to kiss me, I will go now” said YuYu Kangkang

“Forgive my daughter Oh mighty YuYu. She doesn’t know what she said” said Nyai Intan trying to calm YuYu Kangkang “Of course we will gladly kiss you, Mighty Yuyu” said Nyai Intan

After that, Nyai Intan forced all of her daughters to hug and kiss YuYu Kangkang and when they have done it, YuYu Kangkang fulfilled his end of the bargain. Nyai Intan and her daughters get on the back of Yuyu Kangkang and then the giant crab started to walk crossing the river until they get to the other side. When they have arrived at the other side of the river, Nyai Intan and her daughters jumped down and left YuYu Kangkang at the river bank without saying goodbye.

Arriving at Dadapan village, Nyai Intan and her daughters went straight to Mbok Rondo’s house. It was easy for them to find the house as the house was the biggest and also the most luxurious of all houses in the area. They knocked the door and someone opened it.

“Owh Hi, it’s really nice to meet you. You must be Mbok Rondo, right?” said Nyai Intan excitedly.

“Hello, yes I am Mbok Rondo. Who are you? And how do you know my name” asked Mbok Rondo

“I am Nyai Intan and these are my daughters. We live in the village over there” said Nyai Intan pointing her finger to the other side of Bengawan Solo river “of course we know you, you are so famous in our village” she continued

“Well, I didn’t know that” said Mbok Rondo in her modest way

“Ahahaha, you are so nice. I like it” said Nyai Intan, “so, where is that handsome boy of yours?” she asked to Mbok Rondo curiously

“Owh, I see. You came here to see my son” said Mbok Rondo “wait, let me call him” she said. “Ande Ande Lumut, my son, come here. Some people want to meet you” said Mbok Rondo with her soft voice

Ande Ande Lumut came out of the house and introduced himself to his guest.

“My name is Ande Ande Lumut” he said.

“Aaww, you are so handsome” said Kleting Ijo and Kleting Biru in the same time

“Hush, he is mine” said Kleting Abang

“I’m sorry, I don’t understand what you guys are talking about” said Ande Ande Lumut

“Do you want to be my husband?” said Kleting Abang

“I am sorry, but I don’t thik that you are the right person for me” said Ande Ande Lumut

“Why?” Kleting Abang started to be upset

“What about me?” said Kleting Ijo

“Or me?” said Kleting Biru trying to keep up

“Thank you so much for asking, but I know what you guys did on your way to my house” said Ande Ande Lumut

“What do you mean?” said Nyai Intan

“You guys can easily give your kiss to a stranger just for a simple favor, how can I choose one of you when you don’t even try to respect yourself” said Ande Ande Lumut

“Impossible. It is not possible that you know it” said Nyai Intan

“Of course I know, YuYu Kangkang is my servant. He reported everything to me” said Ande Ande Lumut

“I knew it. We shouldn’t have trusted him” said Kleting Abang angrily

“Now for the final part, let me introduce you to my future wife” said Ande Ande Lumut

Suddenly, Kleting Kuning showed up in front of them.

“You! Why are you here?” said Nyai Intan

“She was following you actually” said Ande Ande Lumut. “She arrived right after you left my servant at the river bank without even thanking him” he continued “and I choose her to be my wife, because she is the only one who refuses the offer of YuYu Kangkang” he said.

Feeling ashamed, Nyai Intan and her daughters ran off from Mbok Rondo’s house and didn’t look back at all leaving Klenting Kuning, Ande Ande Lumut and Mbok Rondo behind. After that, Ande Ande Lumut welcomed Klenting Kuning to his house and they had a talk for hours trying to get to know each other better. When he was certain of his feeling toward her, Ande Ande Lumut asked her to marry him and she agreed. Finally, Ande Ande Lumut revealed his true identity and brought Klenting Kuning and Mbok Rondo to his palace and they live happily ever after in the palace.

Pada suatu masa, di suatu tempat di Jawa Timur, hiduplah seorang pangeran yang sangat tampan bernama Panji Asmarabangun. Dia sangat pandai dan sakti sehingga dia selalu menang dalam berperang. Dia juga sangat baik dan dermawan pada rakyatnya sehingga semua orang di kerajaannya sangat mengagumi nya. Hidupnya hampir sempurna karena ia nampak seolah memiliki segalanya. Hanya ada satu hal yang kurang dari hidupnya dan itu adalah pendamping hidup.

Gadis-gadis dari seluruh penjuru kerajaan itu telah mencoba untuk mendapatkan hatinya namun tidak satupun dari mereka yang nampak mampu mendapat perhatiannya. Alasan dibalik hal ini adalah karena pangeran Panji Asmarabangun tidak mau seorang gadis mencintainya karena dia adalah seorang pangeran namun dia ingin seorang gadis mencintainya apa adanya ia sebagai seseorang dan sebagai manusia biasa. Setelah mengetahui apa yang hatinya benar-benar inginkan, pangeran Panji Asmarabangun memutuskan untuk meninggalkan istana untuk sementara waktu dan hidup sebagai masyarakat biasa di suatu tempat yang jauh dari istana.

Dia menemukan sebuah tempat untuk tinggal di desa Dadapan. Dia tinggal bersama seorang janda tua yang dikenal dengan julukan Mbok Rondo dan berpura-pura menjadi anaknya. Mbok Rondo adalah seorang wanita yang sangat baik dan dia bersikap seolah pangeran Panji Asmarabangun adalah benar anaknya sendiri. Dia pun kemudian membeirnya nama baru, Ande Ande Lumut. Sejak hari itu, mereka berdua hidup bersama sebagai sebuah keluarga.

Dengan uang yang ia bawa dari istana, pangeran Panji Asmarabangun membangun sebuah rumah yang sangat indah untuk Mbok Rondo di dekat sungai Bengawan Solo. Berita tentang Mbok Rondo yang memiliki anak laki-laki yang sangat kaya menyebar begitu cepat hingga berita itu sampai ke desa sebrang sungai dimana seorang wanita jahat bernama Nyai Intan tinggal bersama anak-anaknya: Kleting Abang, Kleting Ijo, Kleting Biru dan Kleting Kuning.

Cerita tantang seorang pemuda kaya yang tinggal di sebrang sungai telah menarik perhatian Nyai Intan untuk melakukan tindakan. Dia pun menyuruh semua putrinya, kecuali Kleting Kuning, untuk bersiap-siap menemui calon suami mereka di desa Dadapan. Kleting Kuning tidak diikutsertakan karena dia sebenarnya adalah anak angkat di keluarga itu.

Setelah bersiap-siap, Nyai Intan dan anak-anak perempuannya langsung pergi menuju desa Dadapan. Ketika mereka tiba di tepi sungai Bengawan Solo, mereka tidak melihat ada perahu satu pun di sana. Mereka tidak tau apa yang harus mereka lakukan karena tidak satupun dari mereka ada yang bisa berenang. Tiba-tiba, mereka mendengar suara dari semak-semak di kejauhan.

“Aku bisa membantu jika kalian ingin pergi ke sisi sebrang sungai ini” ujar suara misterius itu

“Siapa di sana? Tunjukkan dirimu!” ujar Nyai Intan

Seekor kepiting sungai raksasa tiba-tiba saja keluar dari semak-semak itu dan memperkenalkan dirinya sebagai YuYu Kangkang (yuyu adalah bahasa Jawanya kepiting sungai)

“Oh YuYu Kangkang yang perkasa, maukah kau menolong kami dan membawa kami ke sebrang sungai ini?” tanya Nyai Intan sambil mencoba membujuk kepiting raksasa itu

“Oh.. tentu aku mau. Aku akan dengan senang hati membantu kalian semua jika kalian mau menciumku” ujar YuYu Kangkang

“Apa? Mencium kamu? Dalam mimpimu!” ujar Kleting Abang dengan geram

“Ssst.. jaga ucapanmu Kleting Abang” ujar Nyai Intan

“tapi dia sangat bau, Ibu” ujar Kleting Abang

“Baiklah, jika kau tidak mau menciumku, aku akan pergi sekarang” ujar YuYu Kangkang

“Maafkan putriku YuYu Kangkang yang perkasa. Dia hanya sembarangan bicara” ujar Nyai Intan mencoba menenangkan YuYu Kangkang “tentu saja kami akan dengan senang hati menciummu, YuYu yang perkasa” ujar Nyai Intan

Setelah itu, Nyai Intan memaksa semua putrinya untuk memeluk dan mencium YuYu Kangkang dan ketika mereka telah melakukannya, YuYu Kangkang memenuhi kesepakatannya. Nyai Intan dan putrinya pun naik ke punggung YuYu Kangkang dan kemudian sang kepiting raksasa mulai berjalan melintasi sungai hingga mereka tiba di sebrang sungai. Ketika mereka telah tiba di sisi sebrang sungai itu, Nyai Intan dan putrid nya melompat turun dan meninggalkan YuYu Kangkang di tepi sungai tanpa mengucapkan apa-apa.

Setibanya di desa Dadapan, Nyai Intan beserta putrinya langsung pergi menuju rumah Mbok Rondo. Sangat mudah bagi mereka untuk menemukan rumah itu karena rumah itu adalah rumah terbesar dan juga termewah diantara rumah lain di daerah itu. Mereka mengetuk pintu rumah itu dan seseorang datang membukanya.

“Oh Hai, senang berjumpa denganmu. Kau pasti Mbok Rondo kan?” ujar Nyai Intan penuh semangat

“Halo, iya saya Mbok Rondo. Kalian siapa? Dan bagaimana kalian bisa tau nama saya” tanya Mbok Rondo

“Saya Nyai Intan dan ini adalah putrid-putri saya. Kami tinggal di desa sebrang di sebelah sana” ujar Nyai Intan sambil menunjukkan jarinya ke sisi lain sungai Bengawan Solo “tentu saja kami mengenalmu, kau sangat terkenal di desa kami” lanjutnya

“Wah, saya baru tau itu” ujar Mbok Rondo dengan gaya nya yang sopan

“Ahahaha, kau sangat baik. Saya suka itu” ujar Nyai Intan, “jadi, dimana anakmu yang tampan itu?” tanyanya pada Mbok Rondo dengan penuh penasaran

“Oh saya mengerti. Kalian datang ke sini untuk menemui putra saya” ujar Mbok Rondo “tunggu, saya panggilkan dulu” ujarnya. “Ande Ande Lumut, anakku, kesini nak. Ada orang yang ingin bertemu denganmu” ujar Mbok Rondo dengan suaranya yang lembut

Ande Ande Lumut pun keluar dari rumah dan memperkenalkan diri pada tamu nya

“Nama saya Ande Ande Lumut” katanya

“Aaww, kau sangat tampan” ujar Kleting Ijo dan Kleting Biru disaat yang bersamaan

“Hus, dia milikku” ujar Kleting Abang

“Maaf, saya tidak mengerti apa yang kalian bicarakan” ujar Ande Ande Lumut

“Apa kau mau jadi suamiku?” ujar Kleting Abang

“Maaf, tapi kurasa kau bukanlah orang yang tepat untukku” ujar Ande Ande Lumut

“Mengapa?” ujar Kleting Abang dengan kecewa

“Bagaimana denganku?” ujar Kleting Ijo

“Atau aku?” ujar Kleting Biru tak mau ketinggalan

“Terimakasih sudah menanyakan hal ini, tapi aku tau apa yang kalian lakukan dalam perjalanan menuju rumahku tadi” ujar Ande Ande Lumut

“Apa maksudmu?” tanya Nyai Intan

“Kalian bisa dengan mudah membeirkan ciuman kalian pada orang asing untuk bantuan yang sederhana, bagaimana aku bisa memilih salah satu dari kalian saat kalian sendiri tidak menghargai diri sendiri” ujar Ande Ande Lumut

“Tidak mungkin. Tidak mungkin kau tau hal itu” ujar Nyai Intan

“Tentu saja aku tau, YuYu Kangkang itu adalah pelayanku. Dia melaporkan semuanya padaku” ujar Ande Ande Lumut

“Aku sudah tau dari awal. Kita seharusnya tidak percaya kepiting itu” ujar Kleting Abang dengan marah

“Sekarang untuk bagian akhir, ijinkan saya mengenalkan kalian pada calon istri saya” ujar Ande Ande Lumut

Tiba tiba, Kleting Kuning muncul di hadapan mereka

“Kau! Kenapa kau di sini?” ujar Nyai Intan

“Dia sebenarnya mengikuti kalian” ujar Ande Ande Lumut “Dia tiba tepat setelah kaian meninggalkan pelayanku di tepi sungai tanpa berterimakasih padanya” lanjutnya “dan saya memilih dia untuk menjadi istri saya, karena hanya dia yang menolak tawaran YuYu Kangkang” ungkapnya

Merasa malu, Nyai Intan dan putrinya berlari dari rumah Mbok Rondo dan tidak menoleh kebelakang sama sekali, meninggalkan Klenting Kuning, Ande Ande Lumut dan Mbok Rondo. Setelah itu, Ande Ande Lumut menyambut Klenting Kuning dan mengajaknya masuk ke rumah dan merekapun berbincang selama beberapa jam sambil mencoba mengenal satu sama lain. Saat dia telah yakin dengan apa yang dia rasakan terhadapnya, Ande Ande Lumut meminta Klenting Kuning untuk menikah dengannya dan dia pun setuju. Akhirnya, Ande Ande Lumut membongkar jati dirinya yang sesungguhnya dan membawa Klenting Kuning serta Mbok Rondo ke istananya dan mereka pun hidup bahagia selamanya di istana.
